Who is Jesus Christ? Scripture begins answering this question from the opening words of the Bible.

The Word Made Flesh

The Bible begins with God creating:

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." — Genesis 1:1

Then God creates by speaking:

"Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light." — Genesis 1:3

Again and again in Genesis 1, God speaks, and His will is done. The Psalms say:

"By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made." — Psalm 33:6

Scripture then reveals who this Word is:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God." — John 1:1
"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us." — John 1:14

Jesus Christ is the Word of God made flesh. In Jesus, God has spoken Himself to us. God did not only send a message. He sent His Son:

"God… in these last days has spoken to us in His Son… through whom He also made the world." — Hebrews 1:1–2

Through Him All Things Were Made

All things were created through the Son:

"All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being." — John 1:3

If all created things came into being through Him, then He cannot be counted among the things that came into being. He is the One through whom created things came to exist.

The Beloved Son

Jesus is the unique Son loved by the Father before creation:

"You loved Me before the foundation of the world." — John 17:24

He is not an angel, merely a prophet, or only a teacher. He is the beloved Son of God.

He Reveals the Father

Jesus reveals the Father perfectly:

"The one who has seen Me has seen the Father." — John 14:9
"He is the image of the invisible God." — Colossians 1:15

Jesus is not the Father Himself, but He makes the Father known and brings us to Him.

In Section 1, you can explore more deeply how all things were created through the Son, why He is supreme over creation rather than part of it, how He shares in God's glory and eternal life, and why Scripture honors Him with the Father.
